Quality Control Manager, X-LAM USA

Position Description:

The Quality Control Manager at X-LAM USA develops, implements and manages quality control systems designed to ensure continuous production of IB MAX-CORE materials and applications (consistent with established standards, specifications and production goals). The QCM provides overall supervision of quality control and assurance for ground floor operations. This position is responsible for executing the strategic operations plan that includes checks and balances of production, equipment operation, safety protocol, government regulations compliance and quality control. Specifically, the areas of focus are safety, production, maintenance and quality. The primary functions of this role include monitoring safe and efficient production flow, monitoring production quality, equipment and machinery operations management, and general administrative management as necessary.

Position Type

This is a full-time, exempt position.

Responsibilities

• Inspect production to ensure the equipment is maintained and the manufacturing process is compliant.
• Ensure a high level of customer service and investigate customer issues and complaints relating to quality.
• Supervise workers engaged in inspection and testing activities to ensure high productivity and high technical integrity.
• Develop and analyze statistical data and product specifications to determine standards and to establish quality and reliability expectancy of finished products.
• Provide technical and statistical expertise to teams.
• Formulate, document and maintain quality control standards and on-going quality control objectives.
• Coordinate objectives with production procedures in cooperation with other plant managers to maximize product reliability and minimize costs.

• Perform routine ground floor inspections and cross reference analysis with personnel.

Production Manager, X-LAM USA

Position Description:

The Production Manager at X-LAM USA is primarily responsible for the overall supervision of ground floor operations as it relates to plant production and shipping processes. This position develops and executes the strategic production plan that includes full-cycle operation of production, equipment, shipping, and supervision of production personnel. The PM monitors safe and efficient production flow, plant workforce management, inventory management, production quality, equipment and machinery, acting as a direct contact for manufacturing, shipping and distribution processes. This role requires evaluating production performance and production costs, along with general administrative management as necessary.

Position Type

This is a full-time, exempt position.

Responsibilities:

• Supervise production personnel including evaluating job performance and enforcing safety rules and regulations.
• Carry out all aspects of the production planning and execution process including creating schedules.

Position Description:

The Wood Structural Engineer at IB X-LAM USA will be responsible for design of wood and mixed building material structural systems.

Candidates must have a strong working knowledge of engineering mechanics, building structural systems and codes. Candidates must possess the ability to communicate directly with owners, architects, contractors, other design professionals and building officials. Candidates must be proficient in CAD and structural design software.

Qualifications:

• Wood structural design experience
• Engineer in Training (EIT), Professional Engineer (PE) certification or willingness to acquire

Quality Assurance Supervisor

POSITION: Quality Assurance Supervisor

Type: Full Time, exempt position

Position Description:

The International Beams (IB) Quality Assurance Supervisor is responsible for the accurate and timely oversight of the quality control department including all incoming raw materials, supplies and any supporting products. This role is responsible for the accurate execution of all aspects of the quality assurance/control manual approved by the third-party QC agency and functions including measurements, calibrations and testing, and is the primary point person to ensure the company’s strict quality goals and standards are met. Additional areas of focus include safety protocol monitoring and adherence, equipment and machine performance, continuous improvement, and safety and health best practices. This position reports to the Director of Quality Assurance.

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for identifying issues with the manufacturing process of I-joists that could affect the ultimate quality or strength of the finished I-joist product.
• Ensures regular testing on finished I-joist product is completed including shear testing, tension testing, and delamination to ensure that product is safe for sale.
• Ensures all appropriate daily paperwork and record keeping is completed to ensure compliance with the APA or as required by other regulatory organizations or customers.
• Serves as primary contact regarding quality issues in the facility.
• Retains the authority to cease production based on the inability to improve identified quality issues.
• Provides updates and recommendations to the QA manual.
• Works regularly in conjunction with maintenance and production departments to troubleshoot the line and ensure product within tolerance.
• Recognizes the importance of and enforces health and safety in the workplace.
• Ensures strict adherence to the QA manual and to the applicable Canadian and U.S. code reports; ensures all updates are done in a timely fashion.
• Works with APA for all scheduled audits.
• Ensures all QA Technicians are completing all tasks daily and supporting the production lines.
• Ability to cover shifts on the ground floor when absences occur from quality technicians.
• Represents IB in a professional and courteous manner when conducting customer visits and/or engaging with external quality control personnel.
• Other duties as assigned by the plant manager.

Key Skills:

• Familiarity with lumber industry and EWP is preferred.
• Must possess excellent, presentation, organizational and planning skills.
• Supervisory experience, specifically managing ground floor quality control staff is an asset.
• Must be self-motivated with a positive and professional approach.

Director of Quality Assurance

POSITION: Director of Quality Assurance

Type: Full Time, exempt position

Position Description:

The Director of Quality Assurance at International Beams (IB) is primarily responsible for the development and operation of quality control systems, application and analysis of testing and inspection procedures, and utilizes statistical methods to diagnose and correct improper quality control practices. This position develops and executes the strategic operations plan that includes checks and balances of production, equipment operation, safety protocol, government regulations compliance and quality control. Specifically, the areas of focus are I-joist manufacturing and production quality, research and development, certification compliance, and continuous improvement of both the manufacturing process and the facility’s safety and health procedures. The person in this role will have a fundamental understanding of quality principles, systems, methods, tools, standards, and organizational and team dynamics. This position reports to the Vice President of Product Development and Quality.

Responsibilities:

• Plan, control and assure I-joist product and process quality in accordance with U.S. and Canadian quality control codes and quality principles, including planning processes, materials control, acceptance sampling and measurement systems.
• Spearhead and enforce all quality assurance/control initiatives to ensure I-joist manufacturing and finished product, raw materials and processes meet U.S. and Canadian quality control standards and requirements.
• Develop and draft quality control documentation including policies, procedures, protocol, inspection and sampling plans; maintain documentation and revise when necessary.
• Research, analyze and communicate quality assurance/control data findings to QA team and executive management for problem identification, resolution, and potential loss reporting.
• Lead and facilitate continuous improvement efforts; provide metrics for continuous improvement progress.
• Complete regular quality control inspection trainings with QA staff to ensure best quality assurance/control practices are being utilized and follow compliance with U.S. and Canadian code reports and requirements.
• Perform problem-solving tests to develop corrective actions for quality issues and to initiate continuous improvement practices.
• Establish and maintain professional relationships with quality control officials and ensure any enforcements and/or updates are completed in a timely fashion.
• Report quality control metrics and trends routinely to executive management.
• Inspect the manufacturing and production processes routinely to ensure equipment is maintained and the manufacturing process is compliant.
• Prepare analysis and budget forecasts for executive team; draft reports that detail specific quality control and improvement metrics for executive team.
• Perform routine QC ground floor inspections and cross reference analysis; communicate findings with QA team and production personnel.
• Provide direction, development and leadership to quality assurance team and production personnel.
• Enforce company policies, QC code requirements, safety regulations and plant organization among personnel.
• Obtain and maintain industry certifications and ensure compliance and regulatory requirements meet or exceed expectations.

Key Skills:

• Possess thorough understanding of quality improvement techniques; knowledge of management and planning tools, QA/QC tools, and proven ability to enforce preventive and corrective actions.
• Ability to develop and implement QA/QC programs, including tracking, analyzing, reporting and problem solving.
• Familiarity with lumber industry and EWP is preferred.
• Must possess excellent organizational and planning skills.
• Supervisory experience, specifically managing QC/QA and ground floor production personnel.
• Communicate effectively with QC auditors and customers.
• Ability to develop detailed reports and provide analysis when necessary.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook applications.

Educational Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree or other Post-Secondary degree preferred; industry certification in a related QC field is an asset. At least 3 years of quality control experience in a fast-paced, multi-functional, industrial environment with experience in a leadership role.
